HYROX Tampa course map: lap distance, push zones and the Roxzone
Everything you need to know about running the Tampa course: how far each lap is, when to go in, where to push, and why the Roxzone adds up to about 1 km.
The lap: go in on your 3rd IN
- Each 1 km run is the stretch from the OUT sign to the IN sign (about 67 m), then two full laps of about 466 m.
- Count the IN signs. You run past it twice, and turn in on the third time.
- Run 1 starts at the Red Bull tunnel, about 60 m before OUT, so it’s slightly longer than the other seven.
- The course runs counterclockwise: along the top from OUT to IN, down the left side past the World Store, along the bottom past the ceremony stage, and up the right side past the Red Bull tunnel.
Where to push and where to hold
- Ease in: from the IN sign to the top-left turn. Your heart rate is still high from the station. After the sleds, burpees and lunges, keep easing in until the World Store.
- Build: down the left side, bringing your pace back up to goal.
- Push: the bottom straight past the ceremony stage, and the right side up past the Red Bull tunnel. These are the longest, clearest stretches. Run goal pace or a little faster, and win back time here if you’re behind.
- Hold steady: the kink at the spectator crossing, and the top straight where athletes merge from OUT and turn into IN. It gets crowded, so stay on the outside unless you’re turning in.
- Final push: on your last lap, lift the effort from the bottom-right corner, about 180 m from IN. On run 8, wait until the Red Bull tunnel so you reach wall balls in control.
The Roxzone is about 1 km
The Roxzone is everything between the IN sign and the OUT sign: walking to your station, finding your spot and getting back out. At Tampa, OUT is to the right of IN, so the stations on the right (ski, sleds, burpees) have long walks in and the stations on the left (row, farmers, lunges) have long walks out.
| Station | Way in | Way out | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 · Ski erg | ~120 m | ~58 m | ~178 m |
| 2 · Sled push | ~100 m | ~34 m | ~134 m |
| 3 · Sled pull | ~80 m | ~37 m | ~117 m |
| 4 · Burpee broad jumps | ~35 m | ~34 m | ~69 m |
| 5 · Row | ~32 m | ~110 m | ~142 m |
| 6 · Farmers carry | ~48 m | ~118 m | ~166 m |
| 7 · Sandbag lunges | ~40 m | ~110 m | ~150 m |
| 8 · Wall balls | ~29 m | ~13 m to finish | ~42 m |
The biggest leaks: the long walk in to the ski erg right after run 1, the walk back from the farmers carry when your grip is gone but your legs are fresh, and the walk out of the lunges right before run 8. At a 1:10 goal, jogging the whole Roxzone takes about 5 minutes; walking it takes over 12.
